God’s Big Promises: Easter for Little Ones by Carl Laferton

By the same writer and illustrator of God’s Big Promises Storybook, is a new board book that introduces young kids to Easter. I really liked the shape and feel of this board book — it was small enough for little hands to hold. The illustrations are vibrant, and the story within is brief and told very simply. It was easy enough for my six-year-old daughter to read independently.

God’s Big Promises: Easter for Little Ones walks kids through Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey, the Last Supper, his crucifixion, and his resurrection. It ends with Jesus showing Thomas the scars on his hands and with Thomas proclaiming, “You are my king. You are my God.”

I liked how this book was written simply enough for a young child to be able to read, but parents may not particularly enjoy reading this book over and over. Due to its length, it does quickly cover the events of the Easter weekend with extreme brevity. The board book doesn’t go into a reason for why Jesus died, or why people were calling him king. But, after reading the board books, you could always follow up by reading through God’s Big Promises Storybook.

Overall, this would be a fun gift to hand out to a Sunday School class, or to put in a Easter basket to read during the Easter season. I’m also thankful, that while very brief, it is a faithful retelling of the Easter story.

The publisher sent me these books in exchange for an honest review.
