Book Review: Priscilla, Where Are You? A Call to Joyful Theology by Natalie Brand
Union Publishing, 2023
90 pages
“What we believe about God is the single most important thing about us.”
— Natalie Brand, Priscilla, Where Are You?

I picked up this new book from Union Publishing while at The Gospel Coalition conference this year. A worker in the bookstore said it was a great book to share with women to pass on the importance for women to study God’s Word! And I agree! Priscilla, Where Are You? is a friendly short book that leaves women encouraged and longing to pursue sound doctrine.
Natalie Brand opens with the reminders that every Christian needs theology to help us know and love God, and therefore, every Christian, no matter their calling, should treasure doctrine and pursue theology.

One chapter dives into the life of Priscilla, a woman in the New Testament, and her life becomes a model for Christian women. Brand writes that “Priscilla’s gift to the church is her rock-solid doctrine. Because of this, she gave an up-and-coming preacher, and the precious newly formed church, theological correction.” Priscilla valued the gospel, and her knowledge of theology helped keep it safe.
Brand goes on to highlight that Scripture is for all believers–every Christian is a theologian! “Knowing God in his Word is the calling, even duty, of every believer.” She also reminds us how as we study theology, our worship becomes more robust, and we are able to strengthen those around us with truth.
Overall, Priscilla, Where Are You? is a cry for women to be “women of rock-solid doctrine.” Studying God’s Word and pursuing theology will equip us to live our Christian lives well and to share the treasures of doctrine with those around us.

“Our Christian lives will only be as strong as our doctrine.”
— Natalie Brand, Priscilla, Where Are You?
