Book Review: Amy Carmichael: The Brown-Eyed Girl Who Learned to Pray by Hunter Beless
The Good Book Company, 2023
24 pgs
Later this month, Good Book Company is releasing their newest picture book biography in the Do Great Things for God series, which are written with kids ages 4-7 in mind.

As a kid, I thoroughly enjoyed attending Girls in Action (G.A.s) as we heard about missionaries at work around the world. It was through hearing about missionaries there that, at this young age, the Lord created a desire in me to enter into missions.
This is why I am excited about this series and this biography specifically! Amy Carmichael is a great introduction for children about missionaries–ordinary Christians who have faithfully followed God to other countries and people groups to tell people about Jesus.

Hunter Beless did a wonderful job at sharing Amy’s story and where following God took her. Amy Carmichael: The Brown-Eyed Girl Who Learned to Pray is captivating and delightful. Beless highlights Amy’s devotion to sharing the good news of how Jesus loves us and the ways God has answered her prayers.

Similarly to Amy Carmichael, our family had to leave Indonesia due to our health, and God redirected our steps. But as Beless beautifully put it, we could “trust that God would still do great things for his glory.”
[The publisher sent me this book for review consideration but all opinions are my own.]
